A Voice of Sanity

If you’re reading this page, you’re probably wondering what the hell is going on here. That’s been happening a lot, recently.

I’m studying writing. Writing comes in many styles and forms. There are a lot of ideas on how a person can learn to write well. The one I’m following at the moment is that it doesn’t hurt to try and imitate the writers you admire. It’s an old idea called ‘Do as the Master does.’

Recently I’ve been reading the works of Friedrich Nietzsche. At first I found him boring and depressing and I didn’t get it – but something’s changed. I re-read On Truth and Lies in a Nonmoral Sense about a month ago and it made my heart go pitter-patter… It was just so good. Since then I’ve started reading my way through Thus Spake Zarathustra and I reliably get shivers every couple of pages. The man was a fantastic writer, and the more of his stuff I read the better it gets.

I want to be able to do that. I want to learn how to do the kinds of things with writing that Nietzsche does. So I created Warlock and Warlock’s Lair as my chosen means to do so. So far, writing with my Nietzsche-goggles on has been a completely fantastic experience. I highly reccomend it.

One of the interesting side effects of this little art project is that, when I comment on someone’s blog as Warlock, I get to see how other people react to this style of writing. Mostly I’ve been getting scorn and utter incomprehension… I don’t know if that means I’m doing things wrong, because people were the same about Nietzsche. For all I know it could be a sign that I’m doing things right! Time will tell.

I hope this was informative, and gave you a bit more of a grip on what’s happening here.

Oh, and aside from this page I’ll never post as Warlock without the Nietzsche-googgles on. Occasionally I’ll step in with my other account to clarify something if I think someone’s genuinely interested in what I’m saying as Warlock – but for the most part, writing ‘normally’ as Warlock would kind of spoil the whole point of this project, so it’s something I’ll be avoiding from here on in.

Just remember to give it a shot; there’s method in my madness.

I hope you enjoy the blog!
